He died later during treatmentGhaziabad: A 16-year-old boy was murdered by another minor after an argument rooted in taunts over video games in a cafe in Loni on Wednesday. The two, police said, had a running feud over insults they mouthed to each other over games they played over a month or two at the cafe.The victim, Faizan, a resident of Arya Nagar, was attacked around 11 am at the cafe near Naipura Chowk, roughly 500 metres from his home, and stabbed twice in the abdomen. Rushed first to a nearby hospital and then referred to GTB Hospital in East Delhi, he succumbed to his injuries by evening. Two minors, aged 14 and 16, were arrested on Thursday.According to his family, Faizan had been a regular at the cafe for two years, often playing Tekken 3, a combat game involving successive rounds of one-on-one fights. The trouble began about one and a half months ago after he lost a game to the 14-year-old accused, after which both boys fell into a pattern of taunting each other during sessions.
The 14-year-old accused claimed Faizan had provoked the original conflict
The dispute escalated a month ago when the accused arrived at the roadside momo stall where Faizan worked, and the two got into a heated argument. On Tuesday, one day before the killing, taunting at the cafe again escalated into a physical fight, which other patrons broke up.On Wednesday, Faizan was at the cafe around 11 am. When the accused arrived and resumed taunting him, another fight broke out.According to DCP (Rural) Surendra Nath Tiwari, a 16-year-old boy accompanying the accused walked to the latter’s home, which stands adjacent to the cafe, fetched a knife, and handed it to the 14-year-old, who stabbed Faizan twice in the abdomen.Faizan’s father, Naeem, a daily-wage labourer, had left for work before the attack and learned of his son’s death only eight hours later upon returning home as he did not have a phone. It was Faizan’s elder brother, Mobeen, who filed the police complaint. “Both had a dispute for the last one to two months after my brother lost to him in the game a few times,” he said.Police registered an FIR under BNS section 103 (murder). Both accused, being minors, will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.ACP Gyan Prakash Rai of Ankur Vihar said the 14-year-old, during questioning, claimed Faizan had provoked the original conflict. A senior officer added that the accused’s father and uncle were arrested in 2024 for allegedly shooting a labourer to death. His uncle was released on bail days ago, while his father remains in custody.
