GURGAON: A Special POCSO Court in Nuh on Thursday sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the rape of a minor girl, holding him guilty of offences under the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The court has also imposed a fine of ₹33,000 on the convict.Dr. Ashu Sanjeev Tinjan, Additional Sessions Judge, Special Fast-Track Court for POCSO cases-cum-Children’s Court, noted the seriousness of the offence and the threats issued to the survivor after the crime. “Strict punishment of needed to discourage such incident,” said the court. According to the case records, the incident took place in December 2022, when the accused lured the minor away and sexually assaulted her. He later threatened the victim against reporting the crime. Following her complaint, the Women Police Station, Nuh, registered an FIR in January 2023 under Sections 363, 366, 506 of the IPC and Section 4 of the POCSO Act.The court observed that the prosecution had successfully established guilt through effective investigation and evidence collection by the Nuh Police. The convict was awarded separate sentences under all relevant sections, which will run concurrently.In the event of failure to pay the fine amount, the court ordered that the convict will undergo additional simple imprisonment. He has been in judicial custody since February 2023, and this period will be set off against the final sentence.
