Panchkula: The traffic police, in coordination with the municipal corporation, Panchkula, conducted a special drive against illegal parking at Majri Chowk on Sunday and issued challans to 10 vehicles for obstructing traffic.The enforcement action was carried out at the busy intersection, where the traffic signal system was recently restored for movement from all four directions after an earlier one-way arrangement was withdrawn.During the drive, officials identified vehicles parked in a manner that impeded traffic flow and caused inconvenience to commuters. Besides enforcement, police personnel also educated motorists about parking only in designated spaces and adhering to traffic regulations.Officials said improper parking not only disrupts traffic movement but also increases the risk of accidents and congestion at busy junctions.DCP (Crime and Traffic) Amrinder Singh said illegal parking was a major contributor to traffic snarls and road safety concerns.“Improper parking leads to traffic jams, increases the likelihood of accidents and causes inconvenience to the public. Motorists should use designated parking areas and strictly follow traffic rules,” he said.He added that similar drives against illegal parking and other traffic violations would continue in the future, and strict action would be taken against offenders.
