Allegations made by actor Ankita Chakraborty against filmmaker Debaloy Bhattacharya have sparked widespread discussion within the Bengali film and television industry over the past few days. The matter escalated when Ankita addressed the media, offering further details regarding her claims and confirming that legal action has been initiated.According to the actor, the alleged incident took place around three years ago during a social gathering attended by several members of the industry. Ankita stated that she had known Debaloy prior to the event and did not anticipate any uncomfortable situation. She has alleged that during the gathering, the director behaved inappropriately towards her, including an attempt at unwanted physical contact. The actor said the experience had a lasting emotional impact on her.Following this, Ankita’s legal counsel, advocate Priyam De, has sent a legal notice to Debaloy. As per the actor’s statement, the notice does not seek financial compensation but calls for a public apology within a specified time frame. She has indicated that failure to comply would lead to the filing of a formal police complaint.In response, Debaloy has denied all allegations. He has stated that he has not yet received any legal notice and has claimed that the accusations are an attempt to damage his reputation. He has also said that he intends to pursue legal remedies himself and approach the court to contest the claims.Addressing speculation surrounding Debaloy’s recent social media activity, he clarified that a post he deleted was unrelated to the allegations and was removed following feedback from acquaintances regarding its tone and content. He further questioned why, if the allegations were serious, they were being discussed publicly before legal proceedings had begun. The director has maintained that the accusations are unfounded and has said he will take legal steps to defend himself.At present, no police complaint has been officially confirmed by either party.
