Elon Musk has just done something no human has ever managed before: he has officially become the world’s first trillionaire. He hit this milestone on June 12, 2026, when his rocket and satellite company, SpaceX, made its long-awaited debut, being listed on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol SPCX. SpaceX sold around 556 million shares priced at $135 each, and raised about $75 billion in the largest initial public offering in stock-market history. The stock soared on its first day of trading, going as high as $176 before settling near $161, and the company’s valuation shot past the $2 trillion mark.Elon Musk officially became the world’s first trillionaire after the historic initial public offering (IPO) of his aerospace company, SpaceX. His net worth skyrocketed to an estimated $1.1 trillion through his multi-billion dollar stake in Tesla and his massive holdings in the newly public rocket, leaving him richer than the next several billionaires on the planet combined. While we might expect him to be living in a ‘palace’. Yet the reality is almost the opposite. Despite sitting right at the top of the global rich list, Musk spends most of his time in a tiny, prefabricated house in Texas.

So, where exactly does Elon Musk live?

All through his journey as the world’s richest man, the way Musk lives is comically modest. According to Fortune, his main residence is a tiny prefabricated home near SpaceX’s Starbase facility in Boca Chica, Texas.Musk explained it himself back in 2021. “My primary home is literally a ~$50k house in Boca Chica/Starbase that I rent from SpaceX. It’s kinda awesome though,” he wrote on X. The home, built by housing startup Boxabl, measures just 20 feet by 20 feet. According to Chron, a news website in Texas, it has a living area, a bedroom, a kitchen, and a bathroom with a tub-shower combination, making it around 400 square feet.

His home’s area is in contrast to the space his companies hold

The Wall Street Journal reported that companies linked to Musk own at least three houses in Austin’s upscale West Lake Hills area, each between 6,000 and 9,000 square feet, and are lined with swimming pools.People who have seen the tiny home describe a ‘no-frills’ life. In 2023, Musk’s biographer Walter Isaacson shared a photo of the interior, calling it a “Spartan two-bedroom” home where Musk would “sit at this wood table and make phone calls.”

Elon Musk’s mother describes his home

Musk’s mother, Maye Musk, described his house even more clearly after a visit earlier this year. “There is no food in the fridge. The garage where I slept is on the right. The shower only has one towel, so I left it for Elon. That was okay with me. When I was a child, I’d spend three weeks in the Kalahari Desert without showering. Many times. There was no water. I think my parents prepared me for this luxury,” she wrote on X.Over the years, Musk has always prioritised work over comfort. During Tesla’s troubled Model 3 production, he famously slept at the company’s California factory to stay close to the line.
