Farmers urge TN to withdraw demand for Mekedatu tribunal
Farmers’ associations urge TN govt to go SC against Mekedatu dam

Trichy: Tamil Nadu Vivasaayigal Sangam on Monday called upon the Tamil Nadu government to withdraw its demand for a separate tribunal to adjudicate the Mekedatu dam dispute.District president of the association, M P Chinnadurai, led dozens of farmers in the protest and hunger strike demanding an immediate halt to Karnataka’s Mekedatu dam project.Speaking to reporters, Chinnadurai urged the state government to cancel its recent assembly resolution that called on the Union government to constitute a new tribunal to resolve the Mekedatu dam dispute.“The demand for a new tribunal is unnecessary, and should be excluded from the assembly resolution,” he said.The association urged the state to prevent Karnataka’s dam project without involving a new tribunal. They called for steps to safeguard the state’s drinking water and food security. The farmers also condemned the approval granted to Karnataka to prepare a detailed project report (DPR).The farmers also protested the revised crop loan waiver announced by the state government. They demanded that chief minister C Joseph Vijay fulfill the election promises made to them.
