Patna: A 21-year-old girl preparing for the police constable recruitment examination was found dead in her rented room in Panchmandira locality under Town police station area of Siwan district on Sunday morning.The deceased was identified as Soni Kumari, daughter of Lalit Ram, a resident of Baldiha village under Jamo police station area. She was living in a rented room in Siwan town while preparing for competitive examinations.According to police, students residing in neighbouring rooms heard Soni having a heated argument over the phone late on Saturday evening. The altercation suddenly ended, after which there was complete silence.Sensing that something was wrong, the neighbouring students looked into her room on Sunday morning and found her hanging from a ceiling fan. They immediately alerted the property owner and informed Dial-112.On receiving the information, Town SHO Avinash Kumar reached the spot. As the room was locked from inside, the police informed the woman’s family members. After her relatives arrived, the door was broken open and the body was sent to Siwan Sadar Hospital for the postmortem examination.“Preliminary investigation revealed that Soni had been in a relationship with a youth from her village for the past five years. The man is currently employed in Surat. Although both families were aware of the relationship, the woman’s parents were reportedly opposed to it. Soni had a severe argument with her boyfriend over the phone shortly before taking the extreme step,” the SHO said.No suicide note was recovered from the room. Based on statements of neighbours and a written complaint submitted by the family members, police registered a case of abetment to suicide against the boyfriend.The SHO added, “Police are analysing the call detail records (CDR) and chat history from the deceased’s mobile phone. The exact cause of death will be ascertained after the autopsy report is received.”
