Kerala braces for more rain as IMD forecasts thunderstorms, gusty winds
Kerala anticipates widespread monsoon activity on Friday, though rainfall intensity should decrease.

KERALA: Kerala is likely to witness another day of widespread monsoon activity on Friday, though the intensity of rainfall is expected to ease compared with the previous day. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning at isolated places across the state, while strong surface winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph are also likely over parts of Kerala and Lakshadweep. The IMD has not issued any orange or red alert for the state on Friday after parts of north Kerala remained under orange alert for very heavy rainfall a day earlier. Residents have been advised to remain cautious as intermittent heavy spells could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas and reduced visibility on roads. The weather office has also warned that gusty winds may cause minor damage to weak structures, uproot tree branches and disrupt traffic in vulnerable areas. People have been advised to avoid open spaces during thunderstorms and take necessary precautions against lightning. The southwest monsoon continues to remain active over Kerala, with rain expected to persist over several districts in the coming days
