Magnus Carlsen's classical return, Yagiz's presence add charm to Malmo meet

Magnus Carlsen, 35, will make a rare appearance in classical over-theboard chess outside his home country, Norway when he plays in Malmo from Friday. But the focus in the TePe Sigeman & Co tournament in the neighbouring country won’t be entirely on the maestro.Yagiz Kaan of Turkey, Nodirbek Abdusattorov of Uzbekistan and India’s Erigaisi Arjun would also enjoy the spotlight in the eight-player elite tournament in closed format. The time control is 90 minutes each for the first 40 moves followed by 30 minutes each with 30 seconds increment from the first move.

Being a single round-robin event, the followers will see only one game between Carlsen and Yagiz. Yagiz has beaten world No. 1 Carlsen more than once in online chess. The 14-year-old, mentored by Shakhriyar Mamedyraov of Azerbaijan, recently became the youngest ever to touch Elo 2700 in live rating. Others in the meet are Andy Woodward of USA, Zhu Jiner of China, Nils Grandelius of Sweden and Jordan Van Foreest of the Netherlands.
