Rudrapur: A premeditated murder that was staged as a hit-and-run road accident has been cracked within 48 hours by Udham Singh Nagar Police. The breakthrough led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of the vehicle used in the crime.The crime happened on July 10, when police received an emergency Dial-112 call reporting that a car had rammed a motorcycle near Thakurdwara Chungi on Kheda Road in Jaspur. The collision left three motorcycle riders injured before the vehicle sped away. Police recovered the damaged motorcycle from a canal adjacent to the road but were initially unable to locate the injured victims at nearby medical facilities.The investigation took a turn the following day when Banarsi Das, the father of one of the riders, Nitin Kumar, informed the police that his son had succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Das alleged that the collision was not an accident, but a calculated murder executed by Pushpendra Chauhan, alias Manu, and Zakir Gujjar due to an ongoing personal rivalry.Following the complaint, an FIR was registered. SSP Ajay Ganpati constituted a special investigation team to track down the suspects.On Sunday night, police intercepted and arrested both Chauhan and Gujjar on a highway. Officers also seized the car allegedly used to commit the crime. During interrogation, the accused confessed that following a recent altercation with Kumar and his friends, they tracked the victims and deliberately rammed their motorcycle with the intention of killing them.According to the police, Pushpendra Chauhan has a prior criminal record, while the criminal history of Zakir Gujjar is currently being verified.
