INDORE: A severe rainstorm accompanied by winds gusting up to 50 km/h caused major disruptions at Indore’s Devi Ahilyabai Holkar International Airport, forcing an incoming passenger flight to divert due to low visibility. According to airport officials, IndiGo flight 6E-284 from Pune arrived over Indore on schedule at 6.40 am. However, sudden torrential rainfall and high winds severely compromised runway visibility, preventing a safe landing. Following instructions from Air Traffic Control (ATC), the pilot circled the city’s airspace temporarily before diverting the aircraft — carrying 112 passengers — to Harni Airport in Vadodara, Gujarat. The aircraft remained grounded in Vadodara until weather conditions in Indore stabilised. Once cleared by ATC, the flight took off again and landed safely in Indore at 8.31 am. The unexpected diversion caused subsequent operational delays. The same aircraft was scheduled to operate an outbound flight to Bengaluru at 7.20 am. Due to the disruption, Bengaluru-bound passengers faced extended wait times at the terminal. The flight eventually departed for its destination at 9.20 am, approximately two hours behind its original schedule. Airport authorities noted that the disruption followed a pattern of erratic schedules, as six major flights experienced significant delays the previous day due to operational and weather-related constraints.
