GURGAON: A 39-year-old Noida-based senior graphic designer with a media channel was seriously injured after being hit by a speeding blue Maruti Baleno near an HP petrol pump in the early hours of Thursday.The driver fled the scene, and police have registered a case against the unidentified motorist.The victim, Shankar Singh Kathayat, a native of Lucknow currently residing at ACE City in Greater Noida West, had travelled to Gurugram on July 2 with his friend Varun Gupta.According to Shankar’s complaint, the incident occurred around 6 am when he was returning after refuelling Varun’s Honda Elevate (DL 4C BD 0463) at an HP petrol pump.While Varun drove the car ahead, Shankar stepped out and stood by the roadside. At that moment, a blue Maruti Baleno coming from the opposite direction at high speed allegedly hit him, causing serious injuries to his left leg and other parts of his body.Shankar was taken to Medicare Hospital, Civil Lines, for treatment. Police said the SPR police post received information about the accident on July 2.Investigating officer HC Pankaj visited the hospital but was initially told that the victim was unfit to record a statement. A fresh medical opinion was obtained the next day, after which Shankar submitted a written complaint.Based on the complaint and preliminary verification, an FIR was registered at Badshahpur police station under Sections 281 (rash or negligent driving) and 125(b) (causing hurt by a rash or negligent act endangering life) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the unidentified driver.Police said another person standing near Shankar was also hit in the accident but was discharged after first aid. Efforts are underway to identify and trace the absconding driver.
