ALIRAJPUR: Amid mounting public outrage over the gangrape of a 40-year-old woman during a robbery at her home in Madhya Pradesh’s Alirajpur district, police on Monday detained four persons.Superintendent of police Raghuvansh Kumar Singh said some of the silver jewellery looted during the robbery has been recovered from the four detained persons, news agency PTI reported.“Based on clues found in the initial investigation, it appears that the number of accused could be around 10, and the search for the remaining accused is ongoing,” the SP added.According to police, a gang broke into the woman’s house in a village under the Bori police station limits on Friday night with the intention of committing theft.During the robbery, the accused allegedly gang-raped her and inserted a wooden object into her private parts.The woman was shifted to a hospital in Indore, where doctors said she underwent surgery and is in stable condition. She is expected to be discharged soon, PTI reported.Meanwhile, a five-member fact-finding committee constituted by the opposition Congress, including Tribal Congress national president Vikrant Bhuria, visited Bori to look into the incident.Bhuria said the woman had faced brutality similar to that in the Delhi Nirbhaya case.The Jhabua MLA also said the Congress has extended financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to the victim’s family.“The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is taking a lax attitude towards the incident. The adult son of the victim must be given a government job,” Bhuria demanded.Reportedly, a large number of people assembled outside the Bori police station and held a protest, demanding the death penalty for those responsible. Protesters also raised slogans against the police.The incident took place in the home district of state scheduled caste welfare minister Nagar Singh Chauhan.After meeting the victim’s family, Chauhan said the state government is treating the matter with utmost seriousness and assured that those responsible would not be spared.The minister said he has discussed the case with police officials and that appropriate measures would be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.(With agency inputs)
