First phase of one of the most contested elections came to a close on a whittled electorate, and a very high turnout (of 3.6cr voters) on the 152 seats that went to the hustings yesterday.
In 2021, the score for these seats was TMC 92, BJP 59.
While campaigning, Mamata Banerjee had announced she is TMC’s candidate for all 294 seats.
She asked her voters to have faith in her, even if dissatisfied with her candidates.
Her popularity makes her central to Bengal’s political campaign, but will her supporters continue to do so, while disregarding problems, within the state and TMC, is the question.
