‘Doctor Who’ star Alex Kingston believes David Tennant had started to disengage from the role by the end of his initial tenure. The 63-year-old actress played River Song, opposite Tennant’s Tenth Doctor from 2005 to 2010. Voicing that the Scottish actor was a long-time fan, she recalled that he was ready to leave the show, noting an energy that somehow shifted by the end. Here’s a closer look at Alex Kingston and David Tennant’s experience of ‘Doctor Who.’Alex Kingston revealed that she was unaware of her departure from the legendary show, but that was not the case with David Tennant. “I didn’t know, but I think that the announcement had either just happened or was about to happen while we were filming,” she said during an interview with Oxford Mail, before adding, “People knew that was going to be David’s last season, so there was just an element.”While Tennant’s reaction was not exactly mournful, he possessed a practical approach towards the show. “It wasn’t melancholy, but there was just an energy that I was aware that something had shifted. I don’t think he ever wanted to stop playing the Doctor, as he loved it so much,” the 63-year-old actress expressed. Kingston spotted the shift in energy and overall behaviour; however, she cannot comment on whether it was entirely conscious or not. “It wasn’t that he didn’t welcome me because he absolutely did, but I think it was him starting to already disengage with the character. I’m not even sure whether he knew he was doing that consciously or not, but there was just something there,” she said in the interview.
