Kochi: Police arrested six Bangladeshi nationals who were illegally staying in the country, during a raid in Kochi on Thursday night.The arrested persons are Rakov Shaba, 24, Muhammed Sohal Faraz, 33, Tarek Abdul Monnan, 21, Sogir, 18, Maidhi Hazlda, 32, and Muhammed Agin, 39.According to Hill Palace police, the accused were arrested based on a confidential information that undocumented immigrants were working at a scrapyard on Karukappadam Road in Eroor, near Tripunithura.Police said that during the raid they found that six workers did not possess any valid documents to prove that they were Indian citizens. Further, on questioning, the group claimed that they came from Bangladesh to work here. However, they did not possess any valid visa or passport with them. Police added that they also recovered two Aadhaar cards from the men, which they suspect to be fake. Verification regarding the same is under way.Police took them into custody and seized their mobile phones. They were later made to undergo a medical examination. The six men were booked under Section 21 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act and Sections 336(2) (forgery) and 340(2) (using fake documents as genuine) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.The accused were presented before a court on Friday and remanded to judicial custody.
