Yoga Day observed across Madurai, Trichy with mass participation

International Day of Yoga was observed across Madurai and Trichy on Sunday, with government departments, public sector undertakings and educational institutions organising yoga sessions for employees, officials and the public.In Madurai, the Railway division conducted yoga sessions in Madurai and Tirunelveli with participation from officers and staff. At Madurai, a programme was held at Red Field Ground in the Railway Colony. Divisional railway manager Omprakash Meena, additional divisional railway manager V Prasanna and other senior officials took part.The district armed reserve police also marked the occasion with a yoga session at the Armed Reserve Ground in Reserve Line. Around 136 police personnel participated in the event, which was organised under the directions of district superintendent of police N Devananathan and led by deputy superintendent of police (Armed Reserve) Mohan Kumar.The Mahatma Gandhi Yoga Institute organised a public yoga session at Teppakulam as part of the celebrations.In Trichy, Southern Railway’s Trichy division organised yoga programmes at multiple locations. At Trichy, a session themed ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing’ was conducted for officers at the Multi Zonal Training Institute (MZTI), with Divisional Railway Manager Balak Ram Negi participating.Yoga sessions for railway employees and their families were also held at Rail Mahal, Rail Kalyana Mandapam and the Anglo-Indian School. Similar programmes were conducted at 13 locations across the division, including Vriddhachalam, Chidambaram, Kumbakonam, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Thanjavur, Lalgudi, Thiruvarur and Mayiladuthurai. More than 1,000 employees and their family members took part in the events.BHEL Trichy organised a yoga session at the BHEL Community Centre in Kailasapuram township. K Ashok, executive director of the BHEL Trichy complex, along with senior officials, participated in the hour-long programme. Certified trainers guided participants through yoga postures and breathing exercises.
